Welcome to NAMIT

In April 1997 the National Congress of the Mine Workers Union of Namibia (MUN) adopted a resolution to establish an investment company which would be and autonomous business wing of the union.

The National Executive Committee of the MUN created the Namibian Miners' Investment Trust (NAMIT).
The beneficiaries of that trust are defined as current and ex-mine workers, energy workes and their dependents

NAMIT Primary Objectives:

  • To promote trade union education.
  • To improve and uplift the quality and standard of living of members and ex-members.
  • To re-invest proceed from Nam-mic into social programmes.
  • To ensure Namit becomes a wealth-creating entity on behalf of members.
  • To achieve greater measure of financial viability for beneficiaries.
  • To liaise with regional and international mine and energy workers associations.
NAMIT Subsidiary Objectives:
To estabilish investment vehicles to generate income.
  • To accept donations
  • To formulate policies with regard to disbursements of its funds.
  • To ensure disbursed funds are properly managed and accounted for.
  • To monitor and oversee its investments.
  • To provide for education of mine and energy workers and ex-workers particularly retraining and reskilling them.
  • To provide development projects for mine workers and ex-mine workers and, where appropriate, their immediate communities.
  • To provide projects to enable mine workers and ex-mine workers to engage in other forms of economic advancement.
  • To support projects aimed at improving the social welfare of mine workers, ex-mine workers and their families including their health, education and housing needs.
