Welcome to MUN
The Mine Workers Union of Namibia, popularly known as the MUN, was launched on 23 Novmeber 1986 at the Roman Catholic Church in Katutura, Windhoek.

The reason for its formation was to shape the destiny of the poor mine workers in the country, who had been exploited for many years by foreign mining companies whose primary motives were to reap huge profits from the country's natural resources using people as cheap labour. The Mine Workers Union of Namibia like many other progressive movements such as the churches affiliated to CCN played a major role in the mobilisation front of the liberation struggle.

The main aims and objectives of the union were that colonialism must first be removed to create a working environment where the playing fields could be levelled to enable the workers to participate in the country's economic growth and development.
The liberation struggle was realised and Namibia has gained independence. However, the union, like many other unions, is faced with the future challenges of workers emancipation, economic empowermwnt, job security, issues of global trends such as retrenchments, privatisations, HIV/AIDS pandemic, health and safety environment.
In order to address the above-mentioned challenges the MUN remains committed to face the challenges outlined above, and there is no doubt that this union will face these challenges head on. "People united shall never be defeated." Aluta continua!!
